I have been looking at the Basis Setting on TMPGenc. It uses a high quality setting of 1200kbps, is this really enough? FOr 720x576, on average, what would be the best bitrate people use? I only want an AVERAGE, not a lossless setting as I know it is not possible. THanks

1200kbps should be enough but it depends on your source. Or if you don't need an exact size try use constant quality encoding mode.

I rip DVDs and reencode them to 512x288 widescreen.
