Hello all, this is my first post And I'm hoping someone can help me with this. My issues...

    1. I typically play all my .avi files in windows media center (vista premium) and alot of the time Ill right click a file then click open with and click media center. Media center will pop up and say Cannot play video...so I will exit media center, play the file in windows media player and it plays just fine. I exit WMP and play it again in media center and it plays fine (usually, sometimes I have to exit again and play it with wmp then back again)

    2. When a video file plays through to the end and stops, or if I press stop or just pause it..and if I just leave the pc idle while the video is stopped/paused for a short time media center for some reason shrinks to a smaller window and displays the cannot play video message. But as soon as I press play again or any action on the remote while it is like this
it returns to full screen and plays the video fine again.

    3. Occasionally when playing a file in WMP it stutters when I switch to fullscreen mode. But if I play that same file in media center it does not stutter.

Factors about my system that could affect this behavior:

    1. My computer is a Sony AR-520e Laptop Connected to a 42" JVC LCD TV via HDMI (This tv does not have a vga input, and my desktop is cut off and my video cards resize option doesnt appear for some reason)

    2. In order for media center to fit everything onscreen, It is set at a lower resoulution that my display settings

    3. For playing my video files I have the K-lite mega codec pack version 5.0 installed using ffdshow decoder for divx/xvid

I have read comments by some to avoid codec packs at all costs, but I have had this pc for about 2 years now and have used the k-lite pack for at least that long...and havent always had these issues. Im not sure if any of the factors about my setup that I listed have much , if anything to do with my problems, but I felt it important to list them. I appreciate all the help anyone can give.

    hello,
I have similar problems, I dont want to create new thread so I post here. I think my problem can relate to munky261's one.

I have dozens of .avi files captured from my Samsung VP-D351 camcorder. they are just captured, no editing no recompressing etc. they are in DV format. Windows Media Center (Windows 7 x64 RC) is not able to play most of them. several files are played just fine, but other files not. Other software (VLC player) plays them ok. MC says that it cant find the file, WMP says its a matter of codek or unsupported format.

I dont believe I miss the codec, because when I have two files captured at the same time, one is played ok and other one not, if I missed the codec, I would expect none of files would be played at all.

    thanks for any ideas.
