Okay, I've gotten as far as writing to files after unchecking those bits of my movie I do not want (CUSTOMIZE), and have verified that — with no further alteration — the movie not only burns, it plays like a champ.

Here is where I appear to be stuck.

What I'd like is a permanent ISO file of this edited movie — stored on my hard drive — that I can have as a backup in case my original burn goes walkabout or is otherwise damaged.

I attempted a few different ways to do this but they didn't render an ISO file. The process always started, but after about 5 seconds just reported "finished." So I'm not getting the sequence of steps correct somewhere.

Obviously I made sure that the source was the folder I just customize/decrypted . . . but it's the destination that I appear to be confused about. I thought I was supposed to hit the little ISO graphic (?) no? I'm also not sure what menu selection I should be choosing from the left menu (?).

And then lastly, if I give the DVD my own custom label, will that show up on the DVD if it's inserted into my computer? I'm asking because it seems FAB PLAT ignored my chosen label on their xml file. I guess I'm asking where the custom-label properties are placed, and if such customization interferes in any way with the smooth playing of the movie on a DVD player.

    Thanks for your help guys!

    MISS CHIEVOUS,
Use ImgBurn to build an iso image on your HD. (+ burn an iso image to a DVD) from the TS_VIDEO and TS_AUDIO folder where DVD Platinum put them. http://www.imgburn.com/ or search for a link to it in the tools on this website.

BTW ImgBurn will support the generation of a SL or DL DVD. I've never had a problem with LUK's software. Also donate if you like it and use it. IMHO best iso generation CD/DVD burning program!

I already have Power ISO. The point was to complete every step within one program. All these conversion features . . . and DVD FAB PLATINUM can't include one lousy Save ISO to hard drive option? Chrissake, even SHRINK has that option.

Really disappointed that I have to open another program to complete the steps.

Isn't the ISO option right next to the folder option on the top right side of the main window? It's there on my old version of DVDFab (5.2.3.2).

Except that I'm not generating it from the disk. I'm generating it from a previously-customized set of files stored on my hard drive. And it doesn't work. I get "You haven't chosen an ISO file". Well DUH, I'm trying to generate it!

If you can get it to work Baldrick, please post the steps and I'll put it to the test if it's a method I didn't try previously. And I must warn you, I tried almost everything.

Is it true that only the pay version can export to .iso?

Alright, I got it to work. Last night I was consistently getting a full-color command-line window whenever I tried this; but just now, for the first time, I got a "greyish" (smaller) command line window that allowed me to type in the file name. I'm not certain, but this may have something to do with the ISO folder that FAB PLAT creates. Last night I tried getting this to work without creating that folder, so maybe that was the difference (?).

Incidentally, for anyone who wants to try this in as few steps as possible, I actually did this under the CUSTOMIZE menu. In other words, if I'm not mistaken, I could in the future pop the movie in, lauch FAB PLAT, and skip the entire step of first generating the edited files to a hard drive before packaging to an ISO image (?). That's my ideal choice. I'll try it now and report back.

Holy cow, a single-program SINGLE-STEP process (welllll, except you of course have to actually burn the ISO, but not before I've removed the idiot [AUDIO_TS] directory that has no legiminate purpose whatsoever . . . and added whatever still graphics, box art, DVD labels, and other episode text files for that volume that I want always to be resident with its parent movie/TV volume hee hee). Love ISO files. So graceful. So simple.

NO ISO IMAGE CREATION. With all the conversion features crowding this program you'd think the authors
could manage to fit one lousy "Save to an ISO file" option. $50, and it can't even generate an image file? It's inexcusable.
Now a fantastic program will be forever stained by something that was completely untrue....and stained simply because of someone's lack of knowledge or patience to find the answer.

Yeah, but SHRINK actually called DVDD to perform that function . . . unless you happened to have the patched-for-XP version of SHRINK that called IB to do it instead. Hardly one-stop-shopping, if you took a look under the hood !

Anyhoo, I believe that Fab uses the VSO burning engine. It's a Lincoln, and will get you there, but IB is a Lexus, or whatever you care to cite as your highest reliability metaphor.

Since this thread already deals with custom jobs using Fab, I have a question. As noted in the post above, I would normally skip the burn portion of Fab, and just use IB. But, in using Fab for anything more than the basic rip, is there any way to suppress that damn monkey with the crown from showing up on the backup ? I never saw a setting to cover that, but there are a lot of potential settings, and maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.
