I have Vegas 8.1 Pro made for 64bit Vista. It works great and love it but have a question about settings. Could someone help me with what the best settings to make a DVD would be? It is for football films and quality is important to me. I capture with Vegas as I have found that to be the easiest and most reliable way to capture. When I go to render what would you suggest? Could someone please steer me to where I need to look to help me out? Thanks so much.

first i'd render the audio with a low bitrate ac3 2ch. maybe 192kbps max, it's football not a concert. then use a bitrate calculator to determine the max bitrate for the amount of time the video runs, set vegas to render 2 pass vbr at just under the bitrate you get from the calculator, and set the project to best rendering quality. the longer the running time of the video the lower the quality will be.

what's your source by the way? what camera, format, bitrate?--

The source right now (which will probably be replaced within a couple of weeks because of slight problems) is a Canon Mini DV optura10.
When you say format are you referring to SD or HD? It is an SD camera. About 6 to 7 years old. Needs to be replaced. As far as bitrate, for what? Audio or video and are you talking about the settings of the camera? Sorry for the stupidity here but not great with the cameras right now.
And how for sure do I use the calc?
Rendering with 2 pass do I do variable or constant? -
8000"k"bps is thousands = 8,000,000bps.
if the calculator came up with 8000kbps then you might as well use 1 pass cbr. 2 pass would give you better results than 1 pass at lower bitrates, around 6000 and under, but at 8000 it won't do much.
render the audio and video separately. audio to .ac3, video to .mpv and then use an authoring program to create the dvd spec files with them.
the optura 10 is a small sensor miniDV iirc. there won't be a lot of detail, but wider shots should be ok to follow the game.--

That's what I thought. Ok, 1 pass it is. I render a/v separately already.
As for a camera I need to get a new one. Any suggestions for good ones under 6-700 bucks. -
my personal favorite consumer cams are the canon hv20/30/40 line. you might find last years hv30 in that price range, but they are getting scarce.

What about properties setup?
I like NTSC widescreen
Lower Field order first
Pixel aspect ratio is 1.2121 NTSC DV Widescreen
What about pixel format. Is the 32 bit floating point best to use?
Compositing gama - is 2.222 video best?
Full resolution rendering quality - best?
Motion blur type? Gaussian
Deinterlace method - Blend fields
Does anyone have any tips for this or for anything else to come up with the best quality I can get. Thanks for the help.
