I was reading through Sefy's guide hoping to find out about ripping subs from DVDs and putting them into my TMPGEnc mpeg encodes...but couldn't find info on subs in the guide. If I just missed it please give me the link. Thanks

I think you can select a sub stream in Flask or dvdx and frameserve to TMPG. If you use dvd2avi, you can frameserve with VirtualDub or Avisynth. There are several subtitle filters. Selectable SVCD subtitles is a different story, but I do not know, what you do....

I've done what Truman suggests - Frameserved the video with subs from Virtualdub into tmpgenc. You need to rip the .ifo files with your .vob files, then look for the vobsub plugin for virtualdub. And make sure you enable it before you stream the subs. Just remember that these subs are hard coded onto the video, so you won't be able to turn the on or off.

virtualdub/vobsub doesn't work in all cases....so flaskmpeg/avisynth can be used as a backup

for an easier method (without frameserving and more programs to use), you can just get DVDx, it can encode the movie and you can select the subtitles, however, it's quality isn't as good as TMPGEnc.
PS: You can also do the same with FlaskMPEG, but Flask is nothing more then a GUI, you will need an encoding plugin or frameserving like mentioned earlier.Email me for faster replies!

Can you frame serv from DVDx and encode with TMPGenc?
...could I rip with smartripper, use DVDx to get the subs, and then encode with TMPGenc?
Thanks for the help...and Sefy I just can't imagine what living in that enviorment is like. There has been a news serial on TV here (Canada) following a jewish family around their day to day life in Israel. Very scary and very sad. -
Mordant, it is possible to frameserve from DVDx to TMPGEnc, as it supports the same plugins as FlaskMPEG does, so whatever you do with Flask, you can also do with DVDx.
And thank you!Email me for faster replies!
