I currently have WinAVI 8 and newest ConvertXtoDVD, but each have their own flaws.

Convert does everything fine with much better menus than WinAVI but I don't see an option in it to overlap into 2 DVDs when you're encoding. Win does this to conserve quality but Convert puts it all in one disc with really shitty quality.

WinAVI does most things well especially with quality but it doesn't seem to be able to encode different streams of audio or choices of subtitles. Can this be fixed?

If either one of the problems can get fixed by one of you guys I'd much appreciate it and start using that program to build the best DVDs I can.

    Thank you.

I still don't get how people use WinAVI and think it is good, but anyway . . .

ConvertXtoDVD. Go into the settings dialogue, click on the encoding tab and change the output size to DVD9.

Won't it just ask for a dual layer DVD then or post 2 similar titles that can be placed on 1dvd9 or 2dvd5s?

I like the features of ConvertXtoDVD way better like the stream options, just had that problem with the quality being suppressed to 1 DVD5

    Thanks.

Well you could take your source file and cut it in half then do each half separately. There are many free apps that you can use.

DVD Shrink is one of them and I consider it to be .... the best.

  6. Seriously, if we say that avi is divx/xvid and it may not be, get a dvd player that will play them, I even bought one for a relative rather than keep converting.

  7. Quality aside, I have been using DVD Flick to transcode to MPEG-II. DVD Flick is freeware but its downside is the lack of menus. I don't know about ConvertXtoDVD - maybe it has a better transcoding quality or something?

Well, if it's a DivX or XviD though, I agree with 'victoriabears' on purchasing a DivX/XviD supported standalone player instead. You can get a Philips DVP5990 for a good price and it plays almost all formats (except if you're into HD .MKV and these type of files).

Yeah, you are right. I wasn't very clear in my previous post.

DVD Flick does have menus, but there's just about 6 of them to choose so you don't have many options.
