  1. Pioneer has a new drive, the A04. It has the same write speed for all media types(DVD-R/RW-CD-R/RW)same but it now offers Buffer underrun protection for all media types, and it supports High speed CD-RW. This drive should be a little cheaper than the A03.

Where did you see this new drive? It doesn't show up anywhere I look and it doesn't show up on the Pioneer web site. (I know that it is coming, but just haven't seen it yet.)

  5. Pre-Orders for the a04/104 are being taken at: http://store.yahoo.com/elegantshopping1/pioneerdvr104.html

Looks like mid-March for the release of the A04. I *think* the new G4s are already shipping with the new A04.

  7. RAAGAAman, you are the man. I literally was about to put an order in for the AO3 today but I decided to wait so I can check the Pioneer site for any upgrade news, and I was unable to find anything about this new development that you discovered. Plus, DvDit SE for free if you pre-order. Thanks for the link, Kusanagi. Ah man, this is too good.

  8. Oh and just fyi:

The main differences between the A03 and A04 are mostly:

    - Higher CDRW burning (4x to 8x)
    - Buffer-underun protection for DVD/CD burning
    - UltraDMA compatible (the A03 was PIO)
    - Higher DVD-ROM read speeds (2x to 6x)

The A04 is already compatible with the newest version of Nero Burning Rom.

I see the deals for the A03 already going up on some places, (videoguys offers 5 DVD-R and 2 DVD-RW discs free with a purchase of a A03) but honestly, I'd rather wait for the better drive.

In other news, the A05 engineering samples should be released in about a month or two, which should bring DVD-R burning up to 4x. No release date has been set.
