So I usually work with the hardware and operating system side of things and a consulting client of mine has thrown me a real curveball. He has presented me with a DVD that he wants to "cut" pieces out of and create a new dvd. This will be for marketing purposes. I have no idea where to start and have been given a 3 hour deadline. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What I do know is that the DVD is all one chapter (I cannot skip ahead or back to the next area). The DVD includes a history of the company (which he wants) some tv advertising (some of which he wants and some he doesn't) and some radio advertising (again some of which he wants, some of which he doesn't). Thanks for any help!

For someone who has "no idea where to start", you have been given an impossible deadline. You need to realize that.

The task you have been given consists of the following things, probably none of which you will know how to do.
    1) Rip the DVD to a computer.
    2) Use some sort of editing software to make the cuts and save the output.
    3) Create a new DVD that you can burn for the customer.
That's all a pretty big order for someone given a 3 hour deadline and who has no idea where to start. We all have to start somewhere and none of us knew how to do this at first. Yes, we could do this task within 3 hours, but with no experience for you, I don't see how you can pull this off. All 3 of the tasks I listed call for skills that you don't have and cannot acquire within minutes. Try DVDShrink and hope for the best. It has some primitive editing capabilities and you might possibly be able to meet the deadline, but you will likely understand absolutely nothing about what you did.

Tell the client you can not do the job. Honesty is the best course of action. Especially if he's your client.

I am somewhat familiar with copying dvds as I make backups of all dvds I purchase. I have been using clonedvd and am in the process of ripping the dvd to my hard drive as we speak. The dvd isn't too long so I am taking baby steps to accomplish this daunting task. Thanks to you both for your help.

You know, it would have been better to just present your problem accurately and honestly in order to get the best answer.

Nobody really gives a crap about your (alleged) client or the (alleged) deadline. That's not how it works here. There are people who like helping out others, but they do it at their own pace. Citing deadlines or (god forbid) constantly bumping your topic will not get it answered any sooner.

For future reference (and this will be a competent business practice), state the materials with which you are working and what it is you want to do with them. Any other info, such as the content or who it is for, is superfluous and derails the actual question.

WOW, never done any editing in the past.
Ripped a DVD and changed the video elements (editing and rearanging them), and burning a new DVD in 2 hours, and this after installing new programs, along with learning how to use them....Also add in the time you were lurking here to see what was happening with your post.

    We all believe you

Sorry, not trying to be rude.
