Hi, why do you need to use copying software like DVDFab and CloneDVD when copying a DVD?
When you load a DVD into the CD-Rom, and open up the C:/ Drive, you can see the size of all the Vob's & Bup files.. etc in the Video_TS folder.
So why can't you just drag and drop the whole folder to the C: Drive...and then just burn a DVD from that?
I understand that you need the software if your using 4.7 GB disc's and you have to compress the video to fit, but if you have 8Gb dual-layer disc's...then why can't you just drag and drop the DVD's Video_TS straight onto your hard-drive and not bother with DVDFab or CloneDVD?
I have noticed that the size of the Vob's changes when you use DVDFab for DVD copying. EG: When you look at it in the CD-Rom drive before the copying, they are usually 1,048MB's per Vob...but then after using DVDFab they might be 1,042MB 1,044MB or different sizes than the original. Why is that?....I'm not compressing...and it even say's %100 no compression required.
That's why i thought to myself to get the exact copy with the same size Vob's as the original....i should just drag and drop the TS_Folder straight from my CD Rom to the Hard Drive.
    I hope i wasn't too confusing.
    Thanks.

If it's a non commercial dvd you can just copy it.

But if not then it's encrypted
The purpose of CSS is twofold. First and foremost, it prevents byte-for-byte copies of an MPEG stream from being playable since such copies will not include the keys that are hidden on the lead-in area of the restricted DVD disk. Second, it provides a reason for manufacturers to make compliant devices, since CSS scrambled disks will not play on noncompliant devices. Anyone wishing to build compliant devices must obtain a license, which contains the requirement that the rest of the DRM system be implemented.[1]

Best to read about how lots of dvds are encrypted and have anti-copying schemes such as arcoss put on dvds and newer anti-copying updated.

  4. Because of the encryptions. And because Hollywood works very hard to make drag-and-drop not work. Try it and you'll see.
