  1. Say you have this stamp collection, and you know nothing about stamp collecting and want to sell it. How would you go about doing it and not get ripped off?

I got these stamps, some are full sheets of animals and stuff, some are individual stamps pasted in a book. I've had them for years and just found them packed away and long forgotten...They came with my ex-wife

I was wondering if they were worth anything, but I don't want to spend the time learning all the ins and outs of stamps.

Would you just take them to some stamp shop and ask them what they're worth?

Now some might ask, how is this video related....well one stamp had a picture of a old movie camera on it

Well, you posted it in the off topic, so I don't see the problem.

Anyway, I had a similar problem, I had a complete pack of 1984 football cards, I ended up going to a collectibles shop here in Sydney, they offered me $50 for them, I thought to my self, I have kept them now for 23 years, & at the price he has offered, I would rather keep them, it wasn't like they took up much space, around the size of a pack of cigarettes, anyway, I picked them up & said thank you to the guy & he said, "how much did you want for them" I said "I don't know, but I would rather keep them for my kids", anyway, I ended up walking out of there with the highest offer of $180, why didn't I take it? he was trying to jip me, it didn't matter how much he offered anymore, I was not selling them to him, I ended up using ebay & sold them for $367.

So to answer your question, auction them at ebay, put a reserve of what they are worth to you, you never know, your Ex could end up buying them back

You take them to a stamp appraiser. But a stamp shop may have one available or will know where one is. It may take them a week or two to catalog them and determine the value, depending on the size of the albums. I sold off my father's stamp collection after he passed away. He had about 50 pounds of albums, mostly international. The estate got $5000 for the stamps. He had disposed of the valuable ones several years before or they would have been worth about $25,000. The appraiser told us that from looking at the indexes. He will also charge you for the appraisal, but should be able to tell you with just a quick glance if they are likely to be worth anything.

I collected liquor and tobacco stamps when I was a kid, and now they are actually worth something. Of course they were lost in one of my moves.

Most of the domestic sheet stamps aren't worth much, but it's still worth a try. Strangely enough, postage stamps have more value when they are canceled. If yours aren't, and they are popular domestic issues, they may just be worth face value. You can also do a internet search for ' stamp collection value ' and find some sites that have the value listed for some postage stamps.

Kinda what i was thinking, take it to a place and mostly look at the person's face for reactions, then see if they will appraise them.

I also have coin proof sets dating back to 1974 to 1985 that my grandpa gave me. I'm just going to keep them till my son is old enough to appreciate them, and then give him the sets

Unless you are hurting for money (and like who isn't) I would reccomend saving them for either the future investment or for family hand me downs. Always try to get three estimates in different markets or regions (Good luck, Stamp and coin shops aint on every corner anymore)

Yes I know this is a little late but not quite grave robbing
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?
