i have searched endlessly with no luck. I have converted avi movies, i want to be able to put say 4 movies onto one dvd (which they fit - 700-900mb per converted movie) and be able to play the one dvd on a portable dvd player. Is there such a thing? And is there something special i need to do to accomplish this.

convertxtodvd. The simplest program you're going to find to do what you want.

You can convert them to standard dvd format using the app listed above, however, the results won't be pretty.

Since the files are already in avi format, what you really need is a divx compatible player (if there are any portable models). Then just burn the files as data.

I beg to differ that the results won't be pretty. I have just finished converting 8 episodes of a TV series. The total size was about 3GB before converting. Converted with convertxtodvd with a nice menu & it looks just as good as the original avi's, which looked pretty damn good to start with. I've done this on many occasions and have yet to be dissapointed with the results.

Given that the screens on portable players are around 7-10 inches, the end result of using ConvertXtoDVD will not be so visibly bad.
Granted, if you then play the same disc on your domestic DVD player you really will notice the poorer quality.
I say go for it using ConvertXtoDVD
    Don't worry.......we'll be alright...

File type support varies by chipset. Your best bet is to test the player to find out exactly what it supports, then alter your files accordingly.

You can download a test disc at the top of the DVD Players page.

Also, for what it's worth, file size is not the limiting factor, it is file length (time). 3GB is not issue, it could be 2 hours or 8 hours of video.

And as is pointed out above, if the disc only used in the portable player, video quality may not be much of an issue. It would be worth trying anyway, you could always use a RW disc for testing.

freakin amazing. Philips DCP850/37 plays my converted movies. these movies have been converted using slysoft clonedvd mobile. quality is not dvd quality but hey it works...... the files are 640x480 so i can actually go to 720 and get a better image for these projects.

  10. Try using fairuse 2.5 or autogk they have always worked well for me in the past and give the most error free, and playable avi files. I think most people haven't really read and understood your question. You are looking for a portable dvd player that will play your avi files from a dvd disc, not really to convert them back to dvd format. If you really want to impress your friends try shrinking the files even further say 400x280 , which should still look pretty good on a portable player and will take far less space. Or go for an archos av400 with 40gb enough for even the train journey from London to New York (allowing 28 years for the Russians to build their new Alaskan tunnel)

Yea you understand correctly....so does Krispy Kritter. even at 640 on a 8.5 inch screen you can tell it looks a little grainy......i have all of the archos beginning with the av320 (i think the first archos pmp on up to the 605 wifi) beautiful things they are but this has been an on going project for me when i started seeing divx capable players.....i dont think too many people realize what a convience that is......so far two philip portable dvd players play my files....initial, sony, and mustek no luck....ill post the rest of my findings
