  1. I have a 700 meg divx movie of happy gilmore (dvd rip).
I believe my dvd player is capable of just about any format (vcd, svcd, xvcd, etc.)
My question is which would be the best format to convert to so that I can play it on my standalone? I am definately staying away from vcd as it is a dvd rip but what should I choose? svcd, xvcd, xsvcd?

  2. Cool, a man after my own movie taste

I would go XVCD or SVCD.
They should maintain the best quality
but be advised the the amount (bitrate) of data you use will align with the amount of storage you will use.Higher bitrate=more discs.

Just experiment a while with it and see what is the best quality for you.

  3. kay thanks I'll experiment
one question though, according to the all in one vcd guide it says I should save the audio separately and then include the wav file as the source (to reduce any audio/video synch problems)
should this process be done aswell when making svcds? it does not say to on the divx to svcd conversion tutorial

Don't forget resolution. Will it be better convert to VCD if resolution is 352x288 or 352x240? I mean compare movie resolution to standard VCD and SVCD then make a decesion. Resolution under 480x480 should convert to VCD (NTSC system). My question is what about 512x384? However I always convert it to SVCD.
