Projecting from Macbook Pro to TV

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and am trying to project onto tv. I have bought the correct wires. I am trying to watch live feed from a competition. The display settings were set in two screens, one for laptop and the other for tv. I can see the live feed on tv but when I make the feed a full size screen, the image on TV goes white, but I can see it on laptop. I called the store who suggested to mirror the screens. When I do mirror them, I see nothing on TV, just a blue screen. The help desk is closed for holidays and I would really like to watch rest of the competition on tv. Does anyone know how to fix it so I can see the full screen image on tv rather than the tiny window?

Have you been able to drag a video player screen over to the TV? Try VLC player, it's pretty versatile.

What cable are you using to the TV? HDMI, VGA, DVI, Component, S-video or composite?

What brand and model of TV? Have you set the TV up to input from the laptop?

What resolution do you have the laptop set for to the TV? Not all resolutions will work with all hookups. Your TV manual should tell you what's acceptable. Or try some different resolutions.

This question would probably be better asked and answered in the Mac Forum. Moving you.
Though a Mac should work the same as a PC for what you need to do.

Your TV Resolution should be picked up by the adapter hooked into the MBP.
With The Display Panel set to mirror desktop

and the displays to match each other in resolution,
then everything will display correctly.

It is when you try and have one ( usually the TV) be set at a higher resolution
than the mac can display, that it often gets out of wack and produces a
"white" screen.

What I've done to fix this is to put something in the middle between
the Mac and the TV. For me, I use my DVD Recorder. I hook it up to
the mac adapter via s-video, and then hook the DVD recorder up
to the TV. the Mac and the DVD recorder talk correctly, and the
DVD Recorder and the TV talk correctly, and I get FullScreen on the TV,
as it plays back FullScreen on the MacBook Pro.

Thank you so much for all your help. I actually figured it out, accidentally!
I had to change the display size and then it worked. When I mirrored the images, somehow the laptop display was too big, I think I had it at 1440x900. When I had it connected to TV, all of the display options had (interlaced) or (stretched) next to it and only one size had nothing. It was the size 1270x720 I believe. That was the one size I had to chose for it to work. So tricky!!!

I am using the HDMI cable and the tv is a brand spanking new 52 inch mitsubishi lcd. I love it when it works.
