Just brought a Samsung 1080P9 DVD player at Wally for $69. Very happy with the player so far (the Philips 5960 is now my spare). One question is that the 1080P9 is supposed to handle mpeg-4 video, when I download some mp4 sample, the Sammy does not recognize the files.
Anyone have this player or know what they mean by "able to play mpeg-4" files? Thanks

Are your files SD? MPeg4 covers lots of territory.

Yes, I know what it means. It's a misleading marketing term used to avoid paying money. What "able to play MPEG-4 files" means is that the player supports Divx/Xvid encoded files. Do note that we have a sticky here
https://forum.videohelp.com/topic352457.html
that lists encoding options that may be problematic for playback. You see they can't say that they support Divx playback without paying money, so to save money they say they support MPEG-4 playback, but it's a code name for Divx (note that Xvid will work too, subject to the issues in the sticky). Divx uses MPEG-4 compression, so it's a "wink wink" kind of thing to say that the player supports MPEG-4 playback. You as a consumer are expected to know that.
What many assume it means is that it supports the MP4 container and it most assuredly does not. Few standalone DVD players support MP4 containers. This is why your download won't play. MP4 and MPEG-4 aren't the same thing. -

Bhphotovideo shows it as Divx Certified but doesn't say which level. Probably Home Theater or Ultra. -
