  1. What's the maximum resolution supported from a vga output and what is it dependent upon? I just purchased a brand new 1920x1200 monitor and i tried it on my laptops vga output (D-Sub) but the secondary monitor resolution is set to 1024x768 which makes it stretched and not enough for 26 inches.

I try setting it to 1920x1200 but it return to 1024x768.

    Any ideas?

  2. The max depends on the graphics card and drivers. I'm pretty sure all modern graphics cards support at least 2048x1536. I believe I've seen even higher in the past. Laptop chipsets may have lower maximums. And both desktop and laptop graphics may have lower limits with multi monitor setups. Make sure the monitor type is selected properly. The monitor may have included an INF (driver) file. Be sure not to use too high a refresh rate.

  3. The monitor included a CD with drivers, but seriously do you need drivers for analog signal support?

As for refresh rates it supports up to 60hz, which of course i will set.

Do you mean it switches to 1920x1200 but returns to 1024x768 after rebooting? Or that you can move the slider to 1920x1200 and Apply the change, but the screen is garbled for about 15 seconds, then the resolution returns to 1024x768 and the screen clears up? Something else?

  5. Nope i meant that it you selected 1900x1200 and hit apply but the resolution would remain at 1024x768.

Installing the drivers fixed that, but it just made me wonder why would a monitor need drivers, and especially for an analog input.

BTW it has a pivot feature where you can turn it to a portrait, but how can you set the monitor resolution to rotate along with the pivoting automatically? Installing the drivers didnt resolve this, but i was told this should happen. My model is samsung syncmaster 2693.

The drivers give much more specific information about the monitor's capabilities than that which can be obtained via the VGA cable.

I've never used this feature but I suspect the monitor, the graphics card, the drivers, and the O/S all have to support the feature.
