My search here on this yielded only one option -- a (presumably pro level) $700 app.
Are there other solutions ? At the moment, I'm thinking mainly in terms of removing unwanted sections from existing videos, and not necessarily anything more elaborate than that. I'd prefer to find a solution that is cheap or free. But it may be that this is barely worth doing: although I understand that FLV is capable of looking first-rate -- as witness that early trailer for the last Bond flick -- the vast majority of the FLV I seem to run into is very crappy looking low-res junk . . . .

Don't know how good it is. I bought their FLV2Mpeg converter and have used their FLV Downloader. All work very well.

Tried avidemux? Or if it's a flv with h264 remux to a mp4 and then it might work better to edit with more free tools.

    Moyea is awful crap.

The best option to edit is to extract the FLV back out to an uncompressed AVI, edit -- maybe even filter it to restore the quality -- and then encode back out to a better standard, such as H.264 or even reliable old MPEG-2.

From the Moyea website for the FLV Editor Ultimate ($50 version) and, again, I have no idea if the software is any good as I have not used this particular piece:
    --------------------------
Moyea FLV Editor Ultimate is a powerful FLV editor. You can trim FLV, merge FLV, split FLV, replace FLV audio, add metadata and cue point, save project file for future editing, transform MP3 to lossless FLV, etc. It generates HTML/ SWF (with various player skins, special effects, and preloaders) for uploading to website and blog.

You can import MP3 and FLV files encoded with H.264, H.263, Flash 8, Flash 8 with alpha, Sorenson Spark, Nellymoser, etc. and export FLV, SWF, and HTML without any loss of quality. You can take it as an FLV joiner, FLV splitter, FLV cutter, FLV trimmer, FLV to lossless SWF converter, and MP3 to lossless FLV converter.

I use both Avidemux and Virtualdub (with FLV plugin) to edit FLV files. For joining them, FLVJoin (Andys FLV Joiner).

FLVExtract is another good free tool.
