Okay. I've compiled some public domain materials and I'm authoring them onto a disc. I want to create a startup screen that gives my contact information and thus, essentially, credits me with the work. (You cannot put a copyright on public domain materials, but you can copyright a particular compilation.)

But, I understand how easy it is to remove that screen with something like VobBlanker. So, I'm wondering if it's possible to somehow link the startup screen to another part of the disc so that if it is removed it will also remove or corrupt another part of the disc so that it is unplayable?

A determined person could still use something like pgcedit, I guess, but it does make the job a bit harder. Certainly not as easy as VobBlanker.

  2. The copyright issue is a bit of a touchy subject here, I prefer to look at this kind of thing as making a commercial for your particular business. I would append the material to the beginning and end of the actual content, not as a seperate item. That way, real editing would be needed to remove it and you haven't changed the original content.

One other aspect of this would be to print nice covers and the disk itself, and mention in the on-screen info that if these things are not present, the disk may be an unauthorized reproduction and may not accurately reflect the quality of your work.

Then again, you may want to leave your info easily removable, so that if someone does make a crappy copy, your name would not be associated with it.

Depends on what you're dealing with.

or actually overlay your info over the video, like opening credits in a movie. but this means you will need to actually edit the video, not simply add a clip or screenshot.

The short answer is no. You also didn't say if you set any prohibited user operations to stop the viewer just hitting next to skip over the clip anyway, in which they might not even bother to remove it.
