I have been burning MKV HD files onto DVD's for a while now without a problem. I then play them back on a Panasonic DMP-BD55 set top Blu-ray player. Only two days ago had a problem for the first time.

I use tsmuxer to create the standard folders, and Imageburn to burn them to a DVD. If I need to split the mkv to burn on multiple DVD5's, I use mkvmerge.

The last two DVD's I created, when played on the Panny, there is no video output, black screen. Audio is fine and counter on the player moves forward as usual.

When I play the m2ts file from the burned DVD in the computer, there is video signal. Previously created AVCHD files play fine on the player, I checked.

I didn't change any settings on tsmuxer or imageburn when this started happening.

    Anyone else had this problem?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  2. It could be that the video specs in the mkv non-compliant with avchd (e.g. might have too many reference frames or use b-pyramid). If you didn't change the tsmuxer version, this is likely the case. You can use mediainfo (view=>text) for more info on the video specs of the mkv. If this is the case, there is not much you can do short of re-encoding to compliant specs

Thank you! I have upgraded to tsmuxer 1.10.6, but not tested yet.

Here are the specs from Mediainfo, any links where I can check what to look for to see if they are compliant?

Also, I see a new option on tsmuxer "create AVCHD disk". I always use "create Blu-ray disk". What is the new option for?

  4. There is no magic button, just look them up, the settings have been covered in numerous threads and most encoder GUI's have presets for standalones.

Your video is not compliant, it won't play on the majority of standalone players. b-pyramid=1, and no VBV buffer.

blu ray is for blu ray (bd25/50), avchd is for avchd (usually used for BD5/9) , the specs are different

    Thanks for the info.

Could the resolution be a problem as well? I see it's 1280x688, instead of 1280x720.

Also, the profile is 5.1 and I had read in a Bitburners.com tutorial that anything higher than 4.1 should be set back to that on tsmuxer. Is this so?

The resolution has to be compliant (720 or 1080). Turning off the 24fps option in the setup menu helps with some videos also, mostly videos encoded with x264.

I searched the forum for compliant specs and honestly can't find them. Any recommended keywords? I'd like to be able to recognize anomalies before wasting time and burning onto a DVD. I did read that when that happens, I could use MeGUI or Ripbot264 to make the file compliant.

  8. Use the "blu-ray preset", most GUI's have them including ripbot and megui. Don't forget to resize. Just changing the AVC level won't work, you have to re-encode for most standalones

Thanks, I will try it and report back.
