  1. Hi
I always though miniDVDs used in camcorders can be played in a dvdrom or a dvd writer. however today i am trying to play a DVD+R DL AVCHD disk and its unable to read the content. Anyway i could make my pioneer dvd writer read it?.

If it is AVCHD then it will not play in any standard DVD player or recorder, as it is not a DVD. You should be able to read the content in your PC, however you may have finalise the disc in the camera before trying to read it.

You can't erase/format a dvd+r dl. Get RW media instead.

The miniDVD with AVCHD recording (after finalized) can be played on a regular DVD drive on your PC with appropriate softwares (such as Nero Showtime in Nero8). It works just like a PS3 or Bluray player but requires a very high-performance PC for playing without lagging. It does not automatically play the miniDVD when you pops it in the drive, you have to open Nero Showtime and select the DVD drive to start playing the miniDVD. Of course, you can see the file structure in the miniDVD with Windows Explorer. You may want to download the trial version of Nero 8 to test it on your PC & miniDVD before buying.

Not if the camcorder records AVCHD which is MPeg4 h.264 and high definition. It has no player other than a properly equipped PC or maybe BluRay/HD (a special player).

It won't without a player that excepts AVCHD h.264..

  7. A PlayStation3 is the way to go here. Mine is superb for playing back clips (via external HDD or thumbdrive) and AVCHD discs.
