    Hello all,

I have 20 gigs of .TS files (5 files of 4 gigs each) and I'd like to merge them all and compress into an MKV file, I have looked in the convert guide but I found nothing to nsuit hat I need.

Handbrake won't read my .ts files (VLC plays them fine) so I'm a bit lost...

Maybe I should try to merge the ts files firstly and then convert them ?

    thanks for the help

Can you post the details from the ts? use mediainfo, open ts, view->text and copy and paste here.

You can also try xvid4psp, megui(one click encoder mode), staxrip or HDConvertToX.

  4. Do you have haali media splitter and ffdshow (or other h.264 decoder) installed? If not, install them and try handbrake again or any of the other programs listed by Baldrick

You can merge them prior to re-encoding by using tsmuxer

    Ok, done (70 minutes !)

Now handbrake sees the file, what settings should i use to get a MKV with the best quality/size possible ?

It's a 1080p so I want to keeop it clean but reducing the size from 22G and keeping it good should be possible, no ?

I have 2 sound streams DTS and AC3, both in 5.1, do i need to keep both, if I keep only 1 which is the "best" to keep ?

Thanks a lot for the help

Try use constant quality encoding mode if you don't need an exact size or else try shrink it to around 4-8GB with 2-pass encoding. I would keep the dts sound if you have a system that supports it then.

Ok, thanks for the tips, what's a "good compromise" for the constant quality setting ? I don't mind having a file that's 10-12 gigs compared to 4-6 gigs but the quality must be visible, otherwise it's not useful.

I'll be playing this with a dvico 6500A on a sony HW-10 through a yamaha RXV-1900 so i think i have quite a decent system...

Final question about the sound, if I keep the DTS track I still have to choose an encoding method from AAC, MP3, AC3 and Vorbis, I think that MP3 and AC3 are out (MP3 will not be good enough and AC3 would need the AC3 track and not the DTS one) but which do I choose ?

Handbrake should/could have a bit more setting explanation instead on relying on Baldrick !!

    THANKS AGAIN !!!
