A friend of mine has sent me an AVI video that she wants me to post online. I have never posted an AVI file online. Have only worked with Windows Media files (WMA).
I want the video to appear like a YouTube video, or a Camtasia Studio video---where you can click on a button (inside a player), and the video will play. In other words, I don’t want the visitor's computer to popup a dialog box and have the video play from the dialog box.
What's the best way to post an AVI video online -- with a built-in player like YouTube/Camtasia?

Thanks, any way to do it without submitting the video to YouTube?
Like a built-in player for online videos? Without the YouTube branding logo? -
the best way is to use your own site and include the video within your webpage
this way, you have control over the video's size & quality
the code below pops the users WMP when they click on a pic
[edit]assuming it's a DV-AVI, it will play[/edit]

or you could code it with the WMP player showing... -
if that AVI includes a mpeg4-asp stream (divx/xvid) then the divx webplayer
would work. -
Zoobie, thanks for the recommendation for JW Player and the WMP code. I'd like to code it so that the player shows up on the webpage.
T-fish -- Thanks, how do I determine if the AVI file includes a mpeg4-asp stream? -
you can look inside the video with aps like gspot and mediainfo and see what codec it's using
then go to the JW player site, see what codecs it supports, determine if you need to convert it to a playable codec, and code it into your page with the link below

Thanks zoobie. Appreciate the help.
