hi
I have the 5990 dvd player and heard that u can hook up your ext. hard drive to it. I try and it doesn't see my hard drive and in the manual it stated that u can not do this. I read that people have gotten their dvd player to hook up to a hard drive and so if u know how could u show me how, thank.

The manual states you can't do it because, for a $60 Divx/DVD player, they don't want to deal with all the people who will have problems.
The external USB drive must be formatted FAT32, not NTFS or anything else. The USB port on the player can't supply enough power for some USB powered drives. If your drive came with an external power supply, use it.
There are many threads about the 5990 here that deal with the issue. -
I have an old 40GB notebook drive inside a 3rd party enclosure, and it works great with the 5990. I formatted it FAT32 with Swissknife.
And like jagabo said, do a search for 5990. That and the WD TV are pretty hot topics these days.
