    Hi everyone

My techno phobic brother has an Archos 5 media player that he wants to take on holiday.

He's got some media in DivX format but the Archos won't play it.

Can anyone recommend some preferably free software that is (most importantly!) easy to use which will convert DivX into formats that the Archos will understand, i.e. MPEG-4. AVI, WMV.

    Many thanks

  2. there are a bunch of things you can try in the tools section. start with the all-in-one video converters like avidemux, winff, xvid4psp.

  3. Try just renaming the files first. Whatever.divx -> Whatever.avi.

Thanks very much for the help, WinFF did the job

Hmmm, I haven't tried just renaming them...have to give that a go next time!

    Thanks!

The following sticky talks about things in Divx/Xvid that can be playback problems on ANY playback device, even though it specifically talks about DVD players:

Any of the things in the sticky could be to blame for why the Archos won't play the videos. The free GSpot program could be helpful in seeing if these videos contain any of the problem features.
