I get my subtitles (SRT) files from a website and use AutoGK or Xilisoft Video Converter to hardcode them in my videos.
But...one problem that I have is that the subtitles fonts are way too big and sometimes take half the video display area.
How can I modify the size of the subtitles fonts?
Does it have to be done before the hard-coding with another tool?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

*.srt-files do not contain any info regarding font or size so you will have to modify the settings of the program you use for the re-encoding (AutoGK or the other one you mentioned).
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

    Ok thanks.
There are no extra settings in Xilisoft so I’ll take look in AutoGK.

You can't change it in autogk. But you can try convert the subtitles to ssa subs that contain size information using subtitle workshop, edit the ssa subtitles size in Sub Station Alpha.

OR use avidemux to add hard subtitles and you can adjust the size. See https://forum.videohelp.com/topic360276.html (scroll down to avidemux guide)
