  1. Hi all,

I have a dark video I would like to make lighter and burn to DVD and keep the good quality to it. I am a total newbie on this and any help would be apprecaited. I have played around with the brightness and contrast filters but when I burn them to the dvd it looks graniy and adds a lot of noise.

    any advise is greatly appreciated..

Dark video is very noisy, and this becomes more apparent as you lift the brightness. Generally this type of correction is best done in virtualdub, or even better, avisynth. However these methods are also more complex than Movie Studio.

I don't know if these will help, but the free Mike Crash filters for Vegas may be of benefit. Specifically the Dynamic Noise Reduction filter and the Auto Level Gain filter. You can find them here : http://www.mikecrash.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=13

  3. Gunslinger,

I am actually pretty comfortable with avisynth, but do not know which filters to use and what process to take with it. Can you give me advice on it also on a program that can read the video in from the camera or point me in the right direction? Its a mini DV taped with a pana gs250

    Thanks for any help...

There is a plugin that mimics High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging, which can be quite good (if slow) as pulling details out of dark video without blowing out lighter areas. I know you can find details at Doom9 : http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=93571

Beyond that, there are several great denoisers for avisynth, including peachsmoother and convolution3d
