I have downloaded AVI files that have been encoded in DIVX. I used AVI2VCD and this took an extremely long time after which the program got an error and wouldn't continue.

My objective was to produce a VCD. Is there a tool that will convert AVI to MPEG reasonably quickly but not too expensive (big call I know).

Please forgive if my terminology is not correct - I am new to this stuff.

    Regards

To encode .avi to .mpg file to make VCD you may use TMPGenc software). Go to the column On the left side of this page and double click "Tools" then after look for "Encoders" item and dowload it.
Open TMPGenc then browse you .avi file and load "Video CD Ntsc or Pal" template to encode your .avi file.
    Any problem come back. OK?

Sometimes the Divx files have "freeze frames" and during the conversion from AVI to Mpeg the program can error.

I run "Vdub freeze frame.exe" to check out the movie first, this only takes a few minuets, and its better to find out before you start the mpeg conversion.

You can delete the freeze frames, then go.

I tried Nero, was not that impressed, I prefer to use Vdub to chop and change, then TMPGenc for the conversion to mpeg 1, then use Creator to burn the VCD.

So far all my VCD's have been very good...

  4. Hi, I'm very new to burning VCD's (I just got my DVD player yesterday!)
Anyway, I have a Divx AVI that I want to make into a VCD. I am using TMPGE right now, and it's been 5 hours and it's not even 3/4 done yet! Should it be taking this long? I have a PII 450, 128 Ram.
Also the MPG file being created seems to be very large, over 1 GB? Can I burn this on Nero?
    Thanks for the help.

Tahnks. I tried to open my .avi file, and got the following message:
    "Couldn't locate decompressor for format MP43(Microsoft -High-Speed MPEG-4 video V3

Virual Dub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable"

    Any clues??

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply
