Hi all,
I've repeatedly tried to rip a DVD using Auto Gordian Knot. I've tried "original" (ac3), CBR and VBR. However they all yield the same results... the a/v being out of sync. Any ideas of why this is happening/how to fix it?
Thanks,
Justin

After decrypting it to the hard drive, use DVD Shrink to get and reauthor just the title (PGC) you want. Then when that's done, run the movie through FixVTS. When that's done open the IFO in AutoGK and take it from there.
You could also take a chance and use PGCDemux on it. Open the IFO that contains the movie, choose only the movie PGC, and check only the "Create A PGC VOB" box. Then open the VOB in AutoGK. I'll assume you don't want subtitles because opening VOBs prevents you from getting any. The first method is more guaranteed to get the AVI without any audio synch problems, though.
And if it's a constant asynch (off by the same amount all the way through), it's easier and much faster to just correct the audio in the final AVI. -
How recent is the DVD title and was it ripped using the very latest version of DVDFabDecrypter?
Do the original ripped files play in sync from your hard drive? -

First, when there's more than one PGC (title) in the VTS (or IFO), AutoGK often doesn't act properly. It's important to open only a single title (PGC). If these other PGCs were after the movie, it wouldn't have made any difference as far as the audio synch goes, but you didn't say. In any event, without pulling out just the title you really wanted, you would have gotten them all joined together. DVD Shrink (or PGCDemux) gives you that single title.
Second, DVDFab HD Decrypter, as good as it is, often doesn't give you a "clean" decrypt, and the audio asynch can probably be traced to it. I think you probably have a newer movie there, one with newer copy protection, and one of the things that often happens is that there are unreferenced cells. When you play the DVD or the VOB, those unreferenced cells are skipped over and no audio asynch occurs. If you leave them in, you often get audio asynch when it's reencoded, either at the beginning, somewhere in the middle of the video, or both, because the instructions to skip them have been removed. FixVTS removes those unreferenced cells. By the way, you could probably also have used RipIt4Me to decrypt it because it runs FixVTS automatically.
I'm glad it worked out, especially after I had you do a whole lot more work just to get an AVI out of your DVD. You can thank those newfangled copy protections for having us jump through more hoops just so we can do what we want with our DVDs. And I guess you figured out that the type of audio you used or created had nothing to do with your out-of-synch result. I think you were somehow blaming the audio in your opening post. -

I used vob blanker to make 4 different sets of dvd files, one episode in each one. Autogk would then work but the audio was out of sync. I thought it was because there were still 3 blank pgcs in these new sets of files. I finally gave up and used Womble mpeg video wizard and loaded the vobs in it and edited to create an mpeg. The problem with that method was where the episode crossed over into the next vob I would have a short silence in the audio. I will definatly be trying fixvts to see if that takes care of the problem. Thanks

Your problem is different and much easier to solve (I think). Use DVD Decrypter set up in IFO Mode (not the default File Mode) and decrypt each episode to its own folder before then feeding them one-by-one into AutoGK.
And even if the audio does wind up out of synch in any of them, it'll be a constant asynch (the same all the way through), and it's an easy matter to adjust the delay in VDubMod to get them back in synch. There's no point in putting in a bunch of extra work testing out all kinds of different decrypting and encoding methods. It won't hurt to do it the way I described earlier farther up the page, but that's mostly for newer DVDs with newer copy protections. Yours shouldn't have any of those protections. -
Thanks, I had tried just fixvts on the vobblanker output and that was still out of sync. I then went back and used the dvdshrink method. That worked. I then looked back here and read your advice. I had never used Dvddecrypter like this before. This worked also and is much easier. Thanks for the help
