I may be able to answer part of this. If you only need the audio, you may be able to connect the audio out from your VCR to your audio card line in. You could try the freeware Audacity to capture. It has lots of options and filters if you need them. It can output a WAV audio (Similar to CD audio) or compress the audio to a MP3 format if you add the Lame MP3 codec.

For connection from the RCA jacks on the VCR to the audio line in on the computer, you need a adapter similar to this:

These are commonly available at most audio or larger department stores.

  4. If you have a dvd recorder you can just capture the audio and split it on your computer, as another option.

With blank dvd's now apparently cheaper than cd's its easy to forget that it can be an audio option at ELP (Not Emerson Lake and Palmer !), comments please.

just use the cable redwudz showed you and make sure when you are recording that your levels aren't too high (usually theres a meter in the recording app that shows green/yellow/red..you want to keep it in the high greens).

After you record you can do some noise reduction/EQ and make it sound considerably better than the source.

Thanks for all your replies, my VHS are old, some have HIFI but sometimes there are audio errors when playing in HIFI , I change to mono and it doesnt have those errors but, well its not on stereo, a friend told me that adding reverb effect on adobe audition makes the sound have a stereo efect, is this true? or is there another option to make the sound less mono. thanks
