I'm converting all the video off my friends COX DVR to DivX and am using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to keep the audio and video in sync from the DVD-RWs he's creating from the Philips 3576 he has connected to the COC box. Everything seemed to be going smooth but the other day, we were looking for something in the VOB and it was not there but when we put the DVD back in the drive, the part we were looking for was at the beginning of the disc. Today, the same thing happened. He knew that part of the video was at the beginning of the disc but again, it was missing from the VOB. DVD Decrypter is leaving out the first gigabyte of data on some of the discs (don't know how much data he's lost since we've been doing this for over two weeks).

Not sure what is causing this to happen but would like to find an alternative to DVD Decrypter. DVDFabDecrypter works fine but it doesn't create one single VOB and we keep running into sync issues when we join the VOBs.

He's running Windows XP Professional 64.

  2. In Settings>IFO Mode set file splitting to none.If that doesn't help try VOB2MPG.

If you are referring to DVD Decrypter, that's how I have it set up. It's creating one single VOB but it does not always put all the data off the DVD in that one VOB. This is happening with the rewritable discs he is creating with the Philips recorder. I haven't tried with store bought DVDs and it doesn't do it with all the rewritables. I've only noticed it twice but since I did not create the discs, I don't know for sure how many times it has failed to create a complete VOB. It has never given any error messages.

If you are referring to DVDFabDecrypterHD, how do you do that? I can't see any way to get DVDFabDecrypterHD to save one single VOB file.

EDIT: I used both VOB2MPG and VOBMerge and I get sync issues when joining seperate VOBs. The DVDDecrypter IFO mode way is the simplest way and avoids sync issues. Was hoping to find a comparible program that didn't have the problem I'm havibg on his machine. I can only assume that DVDDecrypter isn't completely compatible with 64bit XP since it hasn't been updated in years but it could be a problem with the way that the Philips is burning the rewritables and Decrypter is having problems reading them.

I've been using NeroVision to do such a thing for my DVR's discs, and others, for years and it has been absolutely flawless. Nothing was ever missing, even those discs that have "Easter Eggs" have been exposed.

Using Import Disc, it will export equivalent, and lossless, .mpg files out of each title. Some DvDs may have several titles (such as music video DvDs), but if you need one .vob file, just join them using any MPEG tool and rename to .vob.

Or you can just use the .mpg files you want and drop those instead directly into your DivX encoder.
I hate VHS. I always did.

I asked this question yesterday. DVDCrypter's No File Splitting works. If not, then use the VOBJoiner(freeware) to join the splitted files.

The Phillips DVDs aren't encrypted, so you don't need to 'rip' them. I'd try just opening one of the VOBs (straight from the DVD) in AviDemux. It will then load them all and allow you to convert to XviD or DivX. If you have a delay problem, just eliminate it by using the 'delay' filter on the audio.

The problem with trying to open a VOB directly is a lot of times software has a hard time understand the end and start of the file, you get seams where it should be seamless. It's best to extract as a single VOB per IFO-entry recording.

Looks like DVDShrink can also create a single VOB. I'm taking the day off tomorrow for a Dr appointment but will give it a try on Wednesday.

I'm not trying to break any encryption. Like Lordsmurf stated, I'm trying to get a seamless VOB file that I can cut wherever I have to (in Virtualdub) without having sync issues. Joining the VOBs gives me anywhere from 0ms at the beginning to 2400ms of skew at the end and trying to figure out how much by trial and error for each cut I make is very time consuming.

I have no problem using DVDDecrypter on store bought DVDs on my computer in IFO mode with no split selected but for some reason, on his 64bit computer with rewritable discs, he is not having the same luck. I could bring all the discs home and convert them on my machine but he built this new I7 machine just for transferring all the video off his two cable boxes and I hate to wear my Q6600 out on his videos when he has a new faster machine. He makes a lot more money than I do as an electrician, I'm on disability.

Just found out from fccHandler that Virtualdub will join VOBs.

File > Open Video File > VOB_01_1 > tic ask for extended options after this dialog > Open multiple VOB files as one virtual file > click OK > click OK.

I'll try that tomorrow and see how it works with VOBs from DVDfab HD Decrypter.
