I'm going out of my mind here..
Q: Is it at all possible to change the h264 decoder in VLC player to the one that MPLAYER is using ?
A:
I ask because I'm pretty fed up with VLC's inability to play many of my x264 cli encodes. Its hit or miss in many of them. Say I'm making a test encode (to review different encoding quality aspects) and I view them through the VLC player. After some 2 seconds (its random in some encodes) The darn thing will usually pause afterwards until the rest of the video is finished playing. Or, I get various kinds of strange artifacts.
There is something not right in VLC. I can't put my finger on it, but I would theorize that its something to do with how the h264 codec or version there-of was compiled in vlc.
When I play them inside DGAVCindex timeline, they are flawless.
When I play them in MPLAYER, they are flawless.
Or, if someone is fluent in c/c++ compilers and can re-compile vlc with the *exact* version that MPLAYER is using, that would be prefect !! I'd do it, even if it were just for myself and purposes only, but I have no clue how to compile anything in c/c++ let alone with compile to use. I do this a lot with some of the delphi tools I come across: fudge what I need, and then recompile, purposes. Anyway. You could always just make an notation in the readme file of the reason for the re-compile: the above.
Thanks,

That's a good quesiton. Actually, the answer is prob the inverse of what I was going to ask in my first post, but I forgot the question and moved on..now I remember the last question I wanted to ask..

Sorry, I didn't think to mention it before, but Mplayer, although it does play the file perfectly, some of the file do play in slow motion. Not sure if I need to add a (ie frame rate 30 fps or 60 fps) param switch to it, but I did not find any info on just how to do it. Actaully, when I need to test it (since vlc acts up at times) I just drag the .264 file to the mplayer.exe icon on my destop..that usually works enough for me, except for when some strange files don't play full speed, as in 1280x720p @ 60pfs for instance.
yeah, I'll stay away from smplayer if you think its evil..i hate evil.
fwiw: I am using vlc v0.8.5
thanks to taking the time ease my ackes,
