can anyone point me to a free avi splitter? i have two files, one is app. 12 gig and the other is about 6. i would like to get one that will split into equal parts or into the pieces i designate.

i have tried a few and i keep getting messages that they can't open my files - can anyone help?

What type of video file are they ? Very few splitters will handle every format. Use g-spot or media info to determine what you are working with if you are unsure.

Use mediainfo to confirm that they are DV AVI files (I suspect they are). In which case freebird's suggestions are a good place to start
