Thanx .I will pull the trigger Monday
The only thing I'm worried about is the protection plan.can't find any reviews about it -
It's an excellent camera. I've had mine for over 2 years now and have yet to be tempted to upgrade. It's only minor weakness is the dreaded "Rolling Shutter Effect" caused by it's CMOS censor. All cameras with CMOS censors experience this, so Canon is not alone. Picture quality is top notch and can compete with cameras costing 4 times as much.
I don't know what "Factory Renewed" means, however. You can probably get a new HV30 for close to that. It's essentially the same with the added 30p shooting setting.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
Yes, both cameras share the same CMOS censors.

I highly recommend any protection plan you can get escpecially for a renewed cam. Just the fact it's available for this refurb is pretty amazing. If you've had good luck with onecall in the past, there's no reason to doubt them at this point in time.
If your product does not require service before the plan expires, contact us within 90 days of the plan's expiration and receive a 50 percent credit towards a future purchase!
You're only going to use the cam for 2 years? I'd keep it and get the the 5 year protection plan for $95. After that, you probably won't be able to get a protection plan, you've gotten your mileage out of the cam, and then perhaps sell it. These high tech cams are very very expensive to service. -
It looks like OneCall has a good rating http://www.resellerratings.com/store/OneCall

one more question.
I'm 99% sure the cam doesn't include mini-HDMI cable(not a big deal)
do you guys recommend.(money isn't an issue)
1- HDMI (Type A) Male to Mini-HDMI (Type C) Female Adapter (since I own 3 HDMI cables)
2- Mini-HDMI (Type C) to HDMI (Type A) Specification 1.3a 30AWG Cable

man thats a good deal. I just won a refurb on ebay for 431$ and shipped it was like 446$ makes my good deal less of one for sure. plus with this you get the benefit of dealing with a company instead of an ebay dude.

I guess I'd test the tape transport mechanism. That's the moving part. Film some stuff and transfer it over to your PC. Give it a workout.
Congrats! Soon you'll discover the camera will end up being the least expensive piece of a very expensive hobby.
BTW, you'll need a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable to transfer to your PC. It doesn't come with one -

I think a full cable might be better, as a converter itself looks a bit bulky. Not a lot of room on those HV20s

You know the other day I did a 3 cam shoot at the San Diego COX Arena using 2 HV20's and 1 HV30. What I discovered is that I could use my computer LCD as a live HD preview screen. I took the HDMI out put and my HDMI to DVI adapter that came with my ATI video card and hooked my camera upto my 24" Sceptre and I was able to view the live shot from the cam.
By the way the hv20 and 30 are both great cameras. I probably would have bought the new HV30 from costco for $100 more. They have a great return policy 90 days plus they extend the warrantys automatically to 2 years. -

I don't know anything about ecost.com but they have a 2.41 out of 10 rating on http://www.resellerratings.com/store/eCost
It is worth researching an online reseller before ordering from them. -
Whoops. Didn't see the ratings info.
MJA's Onecall.com find is definitely better then.
