Thinking about picking up a PSP.
Does anybody know where I can find the information regarding Memory Stick capacity limit?
I can't find anything on the official site and just get guesses for answer on the official forum.
I know that when you buy a memory card for the Wii you're wasting your money if you buy anything bigger than 2GB.
Is there any kind of limit like this with the PSP?

I think they have a 2gb limit too.

THough that may have been fixed with firmware updates.

I don't have a psp and don't have any plans to buy one. I have a Nintendo DS that is a lot of fun. I also have a 30gb ZUNE so I don't need the PSP multimedia capability.

I'd personally get a DS instead of a PSP. But that's just me. If you already have a DS than a guess it wouldn't be bad to get a PSP....

Apparently there is no size limit on what the PSP can handle, but it uses the FAT32 file system which has a 4GB file size and could limit the size of the usable memory stick to 32GB.

Do a search for the mac htf system. I know the xbox 360 can use it on usb drives so the 4 gig limit is not in effect. The same could be true of the psp. I don't know if the ps3 can use the mac htf system. If the ps3 can the psp almost certainly would...

4gb is the limit unless you have the 2.8 firmware or higher

5.0 firmware will allow you to use upto 32gb cards

I use my 4gb card to put a few games on instead of carrying the games around

@xylob - try the playstation store on the ps3. Apparently you can buy and download games that way and then transfer to the psp. I'm assuming by means of a usb cable - although you have the 60gb model with the memory card readers right???

As far as homebrew goes I can't help you there since I don't have a psp. I'd suggest doing some internet searching and use psp homebrew as a search phrase and you should find something useful.

There may be "soft mods" for the psp that don't require any permanent changes to the psp. There are such devices for the ds (ie check out "slot 1" memory card devices - edge and others).

If you have an external drive you can can use any size with special adaptor (just seems goofy to me)
(I didnt think they made duo sticks larger than 32gb)

image sizes are 1.8gb max for games (that is the max a UMD will hold)

you have to modifiy the firmware with a special battery and run a software program to be able to play the backup games that you own

You can modify the battery or buy one
Then you need to turn a memory card into a magic stick with PSP Grader Lite v004

If you have a 3001 psp it cant be modded right now AFAIK
Also if you update to a firmware higher than 4.1 then you cant mod it if you update to 5.3 then you really are in trouble

    It's a 2000 series.
    5.3 firmware...
But I'm not willing to mod/hack anyway.
