  1. I've read DVD Players' Compatibility list and this standalone dvd players seems to play Svcd. So I've burned one Scvd with Nero 5.5.3.5 but it doesn't work on my players. Is it really compatible with this format? How can I get a compatible svcd to play with Pioneer 717?
    Thanks.

  2. What exactly does your player do when you try to play one of your SVCDs?

As a good guide to whether or not your 717 can play SVCDs, download the sample clip from this site and burn it with Nero5.
If it works, as it did when I was trying to sort out my dv444, then you need to change your encoding settings.

Let me know how you get on ......

  3. You are very kind Sue.
When I insert the disk in the player it points out the writing " cd " and playing it the time of the track flows but there is no video or audio (they are present two tracks).
I will try to do what you have told me however but as I have to use Nero?
Have I to burn like vcd (cd) standard? Should I use Mpeg2 or Mpegav, entryvcd or entrysvd?
    Thank you.

  4. Hi again !

In my experience, Nero5 is a good place to start.
It's not too complicated and burns very compatible disks - even if it does complain when you give it even a slightly 'non-standard' MPEG file!!

Have you tried creating both VCD (MPEG1) and SVCD (MPEG2) disks?
For the purposes of this test, make absolutely sure you create a standard VCD (or SVCD). See the links on the left for all the bitrate/resolution info you'll need <<---.

Personally, I had no problems with VCDs on my DV444, but when it came to SVCD ........ oooweee......... WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!
Finally sorted it though, so if you'd like a copy of my SVCD template (for TMPGenc!) let me know.

    Laters,

  6. Hi Sue,
I've burned the sample file downloaded from this site with Nero. I've tried to play it on my pioneer 717: it didn't work...!
Maybe my player isn't compatible with svcd. Is there another chance to test my player?
Anyway send me your template, I'll made another try...
    Thank you
    Pat.
