Totally lost with playing HD video on my PC

Hi all,
I'm absolutely lost here. I bought the Sony Cybershot DSC T500, but I'm unable to play the recorded 720p HD video on my PC, it only plays it chopped. I was searching and searching, but I really don't understand anything at all. I don't know anything about computers. Was even unable to understand what is what when filling out the information about my PC when opening the account here. I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2512 laptop.
I copied the information about the laptop from the website s I wouldn't know what's important to know for you. Any help and explaination in words as if you would explain to a kid is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Try play with the free VLC Media Player and see if it works better.

Also make sure you have installed all of the software that came with your camera. It may even include a special video player.

In addition to baldricks suggestion try media player classic or the high def version media player classic home cinema.

MPCHC configured to use its internal h.264 decoder with 2 threads will probably play smoothly on that laptop:

MPCHC -> View -> Options -> Internal Filters -> H264/AVC (ffmpeg) -> Decoding Thread Number -> 2.

I don't know of that Intel graphics chipset supports DXVA (hardware h.264 decoding) but also try:

MPCHC -> View -> Options -> Internal Filters -> H264/AVC (DXVA) -> Decoding Thread Number -> 2.

Understand that your laptop is very weak for playing this type of file.

if you have powerdvd v8 give it a try on the files.

VLC does not have a multithreaded h.264 decoder, and it doesn't support DXVA, so it won't play smoothly on your laptop.

Note that MPCHC is not the same as MPC. MPCHC has support for h.264 video built in, MPC does not. If you installed MPC, uninstall it and install MPCHC instead. Then from MPCHC's menu bar select View -> Options. If the menu bar isn't displayed, right click on the main window and select Options.

In the left hand pane of the Options dialog select Internal Filters. At the far right, in the Transform Filters area, make sure the little checkbox next to H264/AVC (FFmpeg) is checked. Then double click on that line to bring up the properties dialog for the FFmpeg decoder. Near the top of the dialog use the pulldown to set the "Decoding thread number" to 2. Press OK to exit that dialog. Press OK to exit the Options dialog. Exit MPCHC and restart it. It may now play your files smoothly.

If that doesn't work try enabling the H264/AVC (DXVA) decoder instead (disable the FFmpeg decoder). That will use your graphics cards h.264 decoder if it has one. If both work just use whichever one seems to work better.
