  1. Hello peolpe

I'm helping a friend out but we keep getting dropped frames. He is running both win98 and 2000 so we went in to 98 and closed all prgrams down exept exlore and vdub, and hurra we didn't get any dropped frams.
But there is a 4Gig limmit in 98 and we tuned to 2000 and there it started dropping frames, so we went into the taskmaneger and closed all things down exept vdub and that controling program and it just loked up, are there any programs that have to be open?

He has a 900Hz computer and a Pinnacle PCTV Pro capture card using Huffyuv codec.

Also he can't capture higher then 352x288 with both preview and overlay of...any ideas to solw this?

If all else fails (and maybe even just coz it works) why not go back to Win98 and use multi-segment capture (aka spill system) in Virtual dub. You can capture forever (at least until you run out of hard disk(s))

Was the resolution problem under both OS's or only Win2k?

    How do I do this?

    I'm sure there are instructions

    a) on this site
    b) on the virtualdub site and
    c) in the help files that come with virtual dub, but basically it goes something like this (I don't have virtualdub in front of me at the moment)

Got to the spill system settings (captre menu) and add a spill drive - ie the one you want you capture to go to (you can specify more than one drive, then it will alternate between them - I think - but it will use them both anyway)

Then enable multisegment capture directly on the capture menu.

    Then start capturing!

It creates a number of files with extensions .00.avi, .01.avi, .02.avi etc. When you go to open the file to edit it, or frameserve to another application (which you will need to do if you wnet to use the file with an encoder etc.), you just select the one with the .00.avi extension and it should pick the rest up.

One limitation is if you want to use the resulting file in an application (eg Ulead video studio, I think) where frame serving doesn't work, but there are other ways to deal with this if you put your mind to it.

    Good luck.

(Regarding getting things working in Win2k...I have no idea....I stay as far away from it as I can!)
