Hey "killbinladen" (great name BTW):
In this case, GIGO (garbage in=garbage out). Blocky DivX files are not going to look any less blocky after encoding them w/ Tmpgenc. DivX movies are already compressed to something like 1:50. A 2 hour movie compressed to 750MB isn't going to provide you with good source material for encoding; when you encode to mpeg-1/2 for (S)VCD, you lose even more data. You can try using some filter settings in Tmpgenc that might smooth-over your video and make it "look" like it has less blockiness, but this will result in a drop in sharpness (it's a tradeoff). Try the "soften block noise" setting in Tmpgenc. Also, I usually use a framerate of 23.97 (NTSC film) which gives you about a 20% increase in quality per second (compared to using 29.97 fps). Almost all DivX's I've ever seen are at 23.97fps anyway, so if your DVD player can support it, use 23.97fps instead of wasting bits on extra frames. Use the highest quality setting for motion search precision--it takes longer but is well worth the wait for fast-action scenes. I would recommend encoding about 1 minute of the video, then watch it--that way you can fool around with the settings until you like what you see. You can also increase final encode quality by upping the bitrate or making SVCD's instead. BUT--just keep in mind that what comes out of the encoder will never look better than what went in. The goal of expert videophiles (not me by a long shot) is to get that final product looking as close to the original as possible. With DivX it is hard to get the same results from movie to movie--play around with the settings and see what works best.
