Columbia Pictures is getting serious about scaring up a new installment of its blockbuster "Ghostbusters" franchise.

The studio has set "The Office" co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.

Studio would not comment on the development and has been mum on recent rumors that there was interest in making another installment of the franchise.

Maybe it will be a reboot with a new crew of Ghostbusters busting the originals who have now passed away and are haunting dickless and friends.

I note that sensibly, Sigourney Weaver has managed to keep her name away from this ludicrous and un-necessary project. Surely Ghostbusters 2 demonstrated that this was a one-trick pony.

  6. I would not get too excited about this.

I have read numerous reports that this would be a computer animated film.

Well that wouldn't be too bad. If it was like CLONE WARS it could still be fun.

"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there.

I would love to see a new version of Ghost Busters, I remember have the cassette tape in the 80's, back when everyone was still wearing those gawd awful parachute pants that they used to break dance in! LMFAO!

Ah, those were the good old days...

Anyways, with the extreme technological advances made in the film industry since the inception of Ghost Busters, I can only imagine how well they could remake this movie, if they decided to.

I mean come on, look at how well all the newer Star Wars movies were made, not to mention all the special effects on shows like Stargate SG1/Atlantis, all the great 3D animations from Dreamworks, Pixar, and Disney, just to name a few!

Think about this for a minute, seriously...a new GB movie could really be something cool, and hopefully if they do get the old cast back together, they do not put them as the ghost busting team because all those old guys are pretty large these days, and there aint nothing cool about a bunch of fat guys in jump suits! LOL

@hmntr - I believe you may have missed the mention of this possbily being a CGI movie.

And fyi if your a gamer or even if your not the new Ghostbusters video game for the major consoles looks darn good. Just waiting for the final release date to be set in stone. ANd most of the original cast do the voices. PLUS Ramis and Akroyd cowrote the script. Can't get better than that
