Is SVI the most unfriendly file format in history?

Hi there,i'm having probs with my sons Samsung's YP-S3 media player.I can get all songs,photo's etc on there apart from video as it has to be in SVI format.
I have Samsung's media studio 5 which is supposed to convert any video file into SVI then put it in the video folder but it wont work with any type of video.So i thought I'll get an SVI converter myself then drop the files in the player manually after hours of trawling through the net imanaged to get one and converted an avi file into SVI and dropped it in the media player,goes to it in the media player and it says its unsupported?
I even tried putting the converted file into Samsung's media studio 5 but it wont put it in....
Can anyone recomend a good SVI converter before i take it back to the shop?

afaik the only way to get a video into it's format is to use their software. for video it has too small a screen anyway. you'd be much better off with something like the archos 705.
