i have no idea what i'm doing....

i downloaded ffmpegx to convert my MPEG1 muxed files to be compatible with iMovie.
after i downloaded the binaries, i dragged the file i wanted to convert to ffmpegx and changed the target format to .MOV mpeg_4.....

almost instantly the file conversion was "complete" however nothing happened.... i couldn't locate the new file, but i don't think it was actually converted.

can anyone please walk me through this step by step?

    many thanks.

ffmpegX keeps a log of what it is doing, accessible by clicking the blue "i" in the ffmpegX Progress window. It should open a new window called Process Information. If you post that content, it can be examined for error messages.

That log is from trying to convert a WMV file, not a muxed MPEG-1 file.

You probably need the Flip4Mac plugin (free, from Microsoft). Once that's installed (and you've rebooted), you'll be able to convert the WMV file using MPEG Streamclip (or other apps).
