AVI subtitles to DVD

If one use an existing subtitle (srt) for an AVI movie, what do I need in order to use it on a DVD?
Change the FPS?
Synchronise the beginning and the end of the movie, or every single sentence in the subtitle?
Tip from all of you is going to be very helpfull because the subtitle is not synchronised to DVD no matter what I do.

It all depends. Start by synchronizing the first and last subtitle to the DVD (I use Subtitle Workshop, chapter 2.3 in the help files will explain how it is done). With some luck that is all you need to do. If the beginning and the end are in sync but the middle isn't, then you're in for some more work.

I checked the movie I want to mount a subtitle on. The first 30 minutes are in sync, but the rest isn’t.
When I play the movie in powerDVD or the like, the first line starts at 1 min 17 sec, but when I preview it in subtitle workshop the first line appear at 1 min 5 sec, so It’s very hard to sync it when the time isn’t right.
Can I change one line at 30 minutes so the rest of the subtitle pushes forward?

Follow the method described in chapter 2.3.4 in the help files. Make a sync point at the first subtitle you want to move (the one at 30 minutes) and a second one at the last subtitle. Don't forget to check the "Return original time (no changes)" - option. That means that everything between the two sync points will be changed, the rest remains as it was.
