So does this player not support this??

I have a ton of anime episodes that are 848 x 480 H.264/MPEG-4 AVC and I have had to convert them with ALLToAVI into Xvid and 640 x 392 or 396 can't remember and Subtitles get somewhat cut off but I can at least read about 80% of them but when I converted the H.264 avi's I get pixelation sometimes when I am watching them...

    why???

I wish My Philips DVP5992 played H.264 because I was thinking about getting the New WD TV: HD Media Player, but I mainly bout the DVP5992 because of the USB Support it makes Watching Movies a lot easier and anime episodes before I would make hundreds of DVDs just to watch a 30 minute show. I am so mad that this WD came out like right after. I want to buy it but 100 bucks more....I wonder if it is worth it. Also do you need to change the Video Resolution to make it play on the WD HD Media Player or will the 858x480 work without converting??

I hope a Firmware update comes out so I can watch my H.264 858x480 Anime episodes without having to Convert them. Also is the latest firmware for the 5992 the best to have or was the original?

Firmware updates won't add h.264 support.

And yes, the WD unit should play your files without need for conversion. It handles resolutions upto 1920x1080.
