I hope this remake is better than Cruises War of the Worlds. That one sucked big time.

At least I don't loath Keanu Reeves. He at least has a sci fi background. Something Cruise never had.

You didn't like Dakota Fanning in the part of "Most irritating little girl EVER"?

I just purchased IMAX tickets for The Day the Earth Stood Still, and I can't wait!!! I'll really be pissed of if the film sucks.

Growing up in the 60's I saw the original film on TV and loved it! Lame Westerns were standard fare back then, and I was desperately crying out for something with real substance. Furthermore, "Day" was the first Sci-Fi movie I'd ever seen, and I was awe struck. I honestly thought it had been made just for me. Shortly thereafter I saw Forbidden Planet, and I was hooked on Sci-Fi.

I've never seen anything by the director, Scott Derrickson. (He's only directed four other films.) Fortunately Roland Emmerich and/or Michael Bay has nothing to do with this film or it would automatically be a waste of time - just like their other films.

PS: The early reviews are very good, and Jennifer Connelly is always a wise choice.

I've been waiting 6 months for this
Being released on IMAX is amazing...

I went over to IMDB and there's already a bunch of kids bickering about the word "remake" and how Hollywood writers are out of ideas...
While the latter may be true, it looks to be a great place to stay away from because they're judging a movie they haven't yet seen

I prefer to keep an open mind until I see the movie...

I loved the original too, but this looks to be nothing more than a special effects blow-out.
    I hope I'm wrong.

Just be warned it's black and white you know (it shouldn't turn you off if you are really into scifi). The original is definitely a classic.

Didn't the Star Trek 1 director direct the original? That was Robert Wise wasn't it???

    sure was...

b&w has it's own merits...high contrast of shadows and light...which is why I like to watch the original twilight zones and outer limits late at night...with all the lights off...much spookier than color

I don't know when I'll see it. I am sure I'll see it in the theater though. The last movie I saw this year in the theater was the DARK KNIGHT.

It's a decent flick, but I have to somewhat agree with the "kids": this wasn't quite a remake. The storyline was a bit weak, but (as hyped) the effects were pretty awesome (especially on IMAX).

The only casting problem they had was Keanu Reeves. they should have cast Al Gore.

BTW, I got free passes for the IMAX here (at 9am!), so I can't really say whether it was worth it (matinee price, for sure).

    A popcorn flick.

The first half was okay, but the second half was weak. The direction was generally okay, but the screen writing could have been a lot better. My overall rating: C+.

I thought Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly were good, but Kathy Bates was mis-cast as the Secretary of Defense, Chris Cooper should have had the role. Finally, the kid was cute but annoying.

btw, I hope you like gort as a 10 storie tall non-descript textured cartoon...
he's on the screen for a total of 2 minutes...when the whole original story was about him

this film has serious logistics problems but those who have never seen the original movie or read the short story, it may be good...who knows?

Like the film, the kid got worse as the story progressed. If the kid had died, I probably would have cheered!

I thought for a second that you were talking about Dungeons and Dragons the movie (Wayan's Character).

I actually cheered when the bastard died... (and a lot of people inside the theater as well).

    Talking about annoying!.
