Just to add, most PATA HDDs need to have the drive jumpers set to 'master' to work properly in a external drive enclosure. The jumper settings may be detailed on the drive itself, or you can get them from the manufacturer. What interface are you using to communicate from the hard drive to the computer? USB 2.0 would be the most common. FireWire may be a bit faster, but you would need a FireWire compatible enclosure, a FireWire PCI card and the correct cables. USB 2.0 would be easier.

I wouldn't necessarily even use an enclosure. I've started to use the IDE > USB 2 adapter cables, and they work fine, for all of maybe $10-20 each. Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Don't forget to get one that includes a power supply, such as:

I never dealt with the company - and I don't doubt that it is legitimate, but since I couldn't see that their checkout was secure when it asked for a credit card, I didn't carry out the purchase.Originally Posted by Verify

 I like the product though.

Buy one from Newegg.com, or search Pricewatch.com or Pricegrabber.com for the best possible price. Geeks.com has a plain IDE to USB 2 adpater, but I prefer to the SATA+IDE version, and again I suggest the ANTEC brand. At very least, get one that does NOT use a cheap white molex connector for the power. The Antec is a thick black cable that ends in a black molex-fitting head. The cheaply-made ones get complaints online. Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
