This week I have a personal friend of mine that drives the city busses in augusta.
I fixed her PC twice in the past do to a very bad trojan on her system and again because her HDD died on her.
This time she says her PC won't turn on, so I spent the night testing her system and I found out her power supply had gave out along with knocking out her mobo ?
I took her pc apart and I found roaches erupting from the power supply and from under cpu fan and the mobo, I quickly took the mobo out along with the power supply and threw it out the window before my house got infected with bugs which I don't need.
I told her the bad news about her dell and I gave her the option of me giving her my mobo, celeron d 347 786MB of DDR-400 ram and a 400 watt power supply or she would wait a week and build her a new pc which I end up charging 250 for parts 75.00 for labor.
She wanted my pc and I told her pc will be ready by 3:30pm today. also I charged her 65.00 for my system. does that sound like a fair deal to you all ? besides that the woman is usually broke when I see her so thats why I gave her most of my main pc parts.

I will be rebuilding my again and my buget is up to at least 100.00
I really would like another gigabyte motherboard because I had a great time with my previous one and never caused any problems with my celeron d or celeron dual core.

I would up the RAM to 1GB as 512MB is a bit 'thin', even for XP. If you get matched RAM modules you will also gain some benefit from dual channel operation. This doesn't add much to the cost of the system.

I would also consider a different PS, maybe: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371013 Not a fan of Antec PS's but I think it would be better quality than the one you listed and about the same price. 350W with a good PS is plenty for your setup. A good quality PS is very important as it can easily destroy your investment if it fails.

Thanks for your help redwuz, a member at tech-forums.net had replied into thread I posted last friday he said he wants to ship me a 2 year old gigbayte motherboard GA-8VM800M-775 and he said he never tried it out after getting repairs done on it.
I told them I have a celeron e1200 running at FSB 800mhz, I looked at gigabytes site to see if they supported it and it says N/A or not listed.
I really do want to use my current CPU with this board and I don't like P4's or Pentium D's that much and those cpu's can easily over heat if I'm not carefull enough.

Is there a way I can find out if gigabyte supports my celeron dual core for this old mobo by not calling them long distance tomorrow ?

This seems to be the MB: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1931
    CPU support list: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=1931

That appears to have a 775 pin CPU socket. Not sure if that is compatble with your Celeron. The MB uses a VIA P4M800 chipset, not one of my favorites, but better than earlier versions. I wouldn't give much more than $30 - $40 for it, if it's what you want or need.

He said he packed it all up and is mailing it to me for free and no payment!
Just goes to show you people can go the long distance for you if they don't wan't old stuff laying around and going to no good use....
I really do need to find out more cpu support information for his board though I will not be happy if I can't use my Celeron e1200 I won this may at newegg.com.

Sounds like a good deal. I hate to throw useful electronics in the trash when no one wants them. You should be able to download all needed drivers from that link to Gigabyte. While you are waiting, you might DL the manual to familiarize yourself with the MB for when it arrives. Makes it a lot faster to put it all together. Good luck.

  10. what do you use computer for .. internet only , run 3D stuff? if you only do office type of work and internet, very little video or graphical stuff, I suggest to look into a G31 chipset motherboard even G43 they are around $50 and if you have a frys close by DDR2 RAM on sale @gigs= $20 , with these chipset you can use your old PSU thats all you need. Your windows may require reactivation when MB is changed. On the other hand if you wait for Friday after Thanks Giving and go to stores at 4AM you surely get better deals specially on CPU combo.

Hey, I'm back after about 7 days, I finally got the motherboard that guy sent me in the mail.
Apparently Gigabyte was right the Motherboard did NOT like the celeron dual core....
When I started up his motherboard it came up cmos it paused and there was a nonstop beeping error it pointed out the CPU was unrecognizable, I quickly shut it down to prevent damage to my one and only working celeron.
Newegg.com sent me the mobo I wanted 512kingston ram and 400 watt dynex power supply.
It took 8 minutes to reinstall the hardware and cables and then powered it on.
At first it came on and quickly shutoff, apparently I had the power switch wires mixed up and the masscool heatsink fan didn't power up because I had the fan switch reversed.... :0
Here are some pictures of my PC and desktop.
Thanks redwuz for your advice and to you all that bothered to read this thread, I'll be trying to overclock my cpu a little bit to 1.8 or 2.0ghz with a bios update if possible.

Looks good. Should give a bit more life to your Celeron.

I don't know if you have added any case fans, but especially with overclocking, you want a front intake and rear exhaust fan for best cooling. You might want to tidy up that internal wiring a little bit, mainly if it is blocking any case airflow. I use a lot of wire ties.
