    HI Guys,
I am new in the field of video editing. I have HDV mini cassette that I wish to store on my computer.
    I don't have a camera.
I am looking for a way to transfer my HDV cassette data to my PC.
I am sure there is standalone hardware to do the job.
Please, can someone help me identifying the right hardware?

  4. Once you have the hardware, you'll need the software (assuming you already have a FireWire interface).

VLC does a great job and it's free. I've written some instructions:

HDVSplit i a good capture program for HDV.

You can pay a dub house to dub the HDV tape to a hard drive.

Why buy a camcorder when you can rent or borrow one or pay a dub house less than $50?
