I have ripped Toy Story 2 to the hard drive. This plays in sync perfect. However if I load it into DVD2Avi and then load the d2v file and wav into TMPGenc, it is about 2 seconds out.

I have tried many other programs and its the same sync problem. How come the DVD plays perfect in any program I use but trying to extract it makes sync issues?

What did you rip it to the hard drive with? My first guess is that there is about a two second video clip before the main movie that has the start of the audio track and it was deleted during ripping.

If that's what caused the sync problem, not sure of a simple cure, but others here may. Or I may be completely wrong. Never had that particular problem, but I usually use DVDFab HD Decrypter or AnyDVD to rip.

I have tried several ways. AnyDVD and draggin the VIDEO_TS folder over in windows, used DVDFab 5, used DVD Shrink with AnyDVD in background. They all work when playing in a DVD software like WMP, but when editing, it is 2 seconds out.

My guess is that the files from the rip have a delay value to keep the A/V sync that you are losing when they are demuxed. I don't use the tools you use so I can't tell you where to look for ways to set an audio delay.

Do you know what ways I can tell if there is one and how to correct it?

According to the comments for DVD2avi, it's outdated and replaced with DGMPGDec which corrects sync issues. You might try that.

I don't use TMPGenc so I don't know if there's a way to set an audio delay, but if you put it though an AVISynth script you can set DelayAudio(2) and then feed it to TMPGenc. I believe you'll need the DGIndex plugin for AVISynth to open the d2v file. Another option would be to open the wav file in Audacity and add 2 seconds of silence at the beginning.

Is there a way to do it without messing with audio delays and stuff like that? The thing I do not get is why in players, it plays PERFECT, just editers cant see it the same way.

The source has a delay value in it that tells players how much to delay the audio when played back. When you demux that value is lost so YOU have to compensate for it somehow, so no.

Where can I see this value? The 2 seconds is a rough guess. Is there a way to see this information?

Not sure. When I demux a file using DGIndex, the delay factor is in the filename of the audio file, but I don't know if DGIndex will work in your process.

That error usually indicates lost data/file corruption. Preset audio delay might not be your problem after all. Let it try to correct the field order problem.

Edit: By the way, that doesn't look like a wav file. It looks like ac3.

Possibly. Again, I don't use the tools you've mentioned so I don't know how they do what they do, nor what settings you should or should not be using. (Not to mention that I seldom rip and convert my DVDs.)

Is there another way to detect audio delay?

Right, I managed to solve this problem. The ONLY program that would output the files in sync was VideoRedo. The MPG it produces I can load up in VdubMod and edit that way. Was a long way but I got there. Thank you for everyone who helped. I really do appreciate it. I have said it before and I will say it again, this board is the most helpful and friendly I have EVER been on.
