I want to build an HTPC. I have a "regular" CRT TV. Will I see any quality changes when playing h264 / mkv / 720p files ?
Or do I have to have an LCD "HD .. something" in order to see it at its best ??
Thanks,
Anna.

Quality is quality.
Will these look better than an over compressed Xvid that is a quarter of the resolution and encoded at too low a bitrate, even on your old TV ? Yes.
Will they look as good on your old TV as they will on a good quality HDTV ? No.
If quality is what you want, then take the 720p file.Read my blog here.
