  1. hey guys

my magnavox player isn't supposed to play any divx files from what i've read on videohelp and the user manual at http://www.m4c.magnavox.com/files/m/mdv458_17/mdv458_17_dfu_aen.pdf

but i can play mpeg files, wmv files and others just fine. Is this supposed to work? The manual states only dvd and video cd format but i simply copied the files into a DVD root folder as if writing a data DVD but it plays. It's mysterious

Also, are region codes only applicable to NTSC/PAL formats. I don't need to worry about downloading the hacks if all i'm trying to play is these computer files. Right?

    thank you

BY computer files if you mean .avi and etc than yes those generally aren't region locked. Though the player might have problems showing the right frame rate if its not designed to handle the other region.

If it can play other formats its not documented than its a bonus. I wouldn't worry about it. It might be that the player is part of a larger product line that does support those files and its just not advertised as such. It's probably using the same chip and decoders and what not but isn't advertising this feature for whatever reason.
