O.K. I will try and be short and to the point. I have a business idea, but I'm not sure about some of the logistics. I have a Sony HVR-HD 1000U Camera and I am wanting to capture and burn at the same time using something similar to Studio 11. Is there a portable DVD burner out there (either USB or Firewire) that would work. Each DVD that I burn would only be about 3-4 minutes long and I would like to at least have a menu. Any ideas?

Any decent stand alone DVD recorder will "capture real time" and result in a basic DVD Video disc with a simple front menu. Some make a menu that is more fancy than others but it will be fairly simple I think no matter what but it will be functional and ready-to-go quickly.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. If all you want is the DVD as the one and only result of this operation, then I don't understand why you want the baroque combination of a camcorder and "portable dvd burner." Why not just buy a DVD camcorder instead? Instead of two separate unwieldy modules that have to be interconnected and separately powered up, you have a single unit that records directly onto DVD media, which DVD is then immediately (well, almost immediately) playable in a standalone player.

Is there a specific reason you need the two separate boxen?

Thanks for the replies FulciLives and tomlee59, and yes, I have considered both using a DVD recorder and a DVD Camcorder, however, I am trying to use a custom menu that matches the DVD labels and DVD Jackets for that "Package" look, and I didn't know of anything other than programs like Pinnacle Studio that I could do that with. That's why I was asking, to see if anyone had actually done anything like this, and what equipment/software they used to author the DVD.

  5. There was a stand alone system a while back that was used to record live performances for sales afterwards. Can't remember the name but its no longer made. What is the idea if you don't mind saying?

  6. Dvd recorders let you select pretty menus.
